Getting Back on Your Bike Following an Accident

At Stokes and Kopitsky, we’ve represented dozens of injured bicyclists who were eager to regain their health and strength and get back on their bikes. If you’ve been injured by a negligent driver, it’s important you take the steps to make sure your medical and rehabilitation needs will be paid for by the responsible insurance company, so you, too, can get back to bike riding as soon as possible.

Important steps to take are:

1. Get your injuries immediately documented by a doctor. Go to an emergency room to get checked out.

2. When you talk to the doctor, give him an ACCURATE and COMPLETE description of your symptoms.

ACCURATE means: don’t exaggerate your injuries, because that can make you seem like a liar, but don’t minimize your injuries, or you may not get the treatment you need and compensation you deserve.

COMPLETE means: tell the doctor about even small problems, because they can get worse later. In particular, knee injuries often get worse over time.

3. Listed to your doctor and to your body. If the treatment isn’t helping, tell the doctor.

4. Emphasize to your doctor how important it is to you to be able to get back to bike riding. Your doctor may be able to make bike training part of your medical treatment, and this will keep the insurance company from claiming that bike riding shows you were not really injured.

If you have questions about your rights as a bicyclist, please contact us at Stokes & Kopitsky. We answer our phones 24/7. Your first consultation is free, and you can hire us without paying any money. Our fees and the costs are paid from the settlement or court award we obtain for you, and there are no fees unless we get you a settlement or court award. Please call us today, Stokes & Kopitsky, at 404-892-0011, for outstanding legal help if you have been injured in a bicycling accident.
